Coding in the Newly Revised Science and Technology Curriculum, Grades 1 to 8

Lisa Anne Floyd and Gabriela Bowen share an overview and practical ideas in grades 1-3 for the newly revised 1-8 Science and Technology Curriculum. This webinar will focus on coding within the new Strand A: STEM Skills and Connections and will introduce cross-strand examples for primary, with connections to the overall and specific expectations.


Lisa Floyd


Lisa Anne loves to share her passion for coding with students and teachers in school districts and educational conferences. She is a PhD Candidate with a focus on math and coding teacher education at Western University, where she also teaches Computational Modelling in Mathematics and Science Education for Intermediate/Senior preservice teachers in the Bachelor of Education program. Lisa Anne has received several teaching and research awards and has published in academic journals, book chapters and blogs. She teaches mathematics in full remote learning in Thames Valley District School Board in London, Ontario, where she has years of experience teaching high school Computer Science, Mathematics, Science and Cooperative Education. 


Gabriela


Gabriela is the STEM Special Assignment Teacher for the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board. Throughout her 16 years of teaching, she has had the pleasure of teaching from primary (grades K-3) all the way to secondary (9-12). In her current role, she works with other educators to help integrate STEM skills and activities into K-8 science and technology classrooms. Gabriela was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and immigrated to Canada when she was a child. She has an Honours B.Sc. in Genetics from McMaster University and a B.Ed. from the University of Toronto OISE program. She hopes that by sharing her ideas, resources, and her learning journey, she can inspire other educators to bring coding and STEM into their classrooms too.
