Events

The Outreach team has had the pleasure of participating in a variety of inspiring events this year, engaging with diverse audiences to highlight the value of TVO’s educational resources. These events have provided meaningful opportunities to connect, share, and celebrate learning. A few moments from these events are pictured below.


Fall 2025

The Next Chapter Festival

The Reading Partnership (TRP) was established in 2011 with the goal to promote and improve literacy in low income, high potential communities in Scarborough and beyond.  TRP is one of Canada's largest charities dedicated to advancing literacy, serving over 2,500 Canadian families. The Outreach team had engaged families and youth through interactive literacy activations. 

Summer 2025

Welcome Center Immigrant Services Operation Backpack

The Welcome Centre Immigrant Services in the Durham region is a place for newcomers to get information, access to services and programs. Operation Backpack is an event that provides free backpacks filled with essential school supplies to school-aged children. The Outreach team connected with families in Pickering and Ajax, providing them with information of TVO's educational resources.

Newcomer Center of Peel Educational Forum

Newcomer Centre of Peel is a settlement agency for new immigrants to Canada. This annual event is proudly organized by our Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) team at the Newcomer Centre of Peel (NCP) to support newcomer parents and their children who are new to Canada and preparing to enter schools across the GTA this coming September. The Outreach Team connected with Newcomer families and other community organizations in the Mississauga area to provide information on TVO's educational resources.

Our Lady Queen of the World Catholic Academy Summer School

The Outreach Team attended the York Region Catholic School Board summer school program at Our Lady Queen of the World Secondary School providing information sessions with the Grade Nine students in the Kickstart program. The students were able to directly interact with both the TVO Learn and TVO Learn Mathify websites. 

Hot Docs Screening of Carnival: They Can't Steal Our Joy

Directed and produced by Ian Mark Kimanje, this documentary captures the evolution of Carnival, tracing its history back to Ghana. From drumming and dancing to the celebration of Emancipation Day. Carnival: They Can’t Steal Our Joy speaks to how diasporans in Canada and around the world cherish the rich traditions of Carnival, as well as the innovations that accompany it. The Outreach Team engaged attendees and shared additional TVO resources.

Vaughan International Music Festival

An award-winning community-led event, the Vaughan International Music Festival (VIMF) is a vibrant and dynamic celebration of music, diversity, and community that serves as a showcase for the rich cultural heritage of Vaughan and the Greater Toronto Area. The TVO Outreach team interacted with attendees showcasing TVO’s digital learning resources and the effectiveness of these resources. The engagement enhanced TVO's brand awareness among families and adults, with a particular focus on TVO Learn, TVO Mathify and TVO ILC.  

The Compass Community Event

The Compass Foodbank and Outreach Center is a community where people can find support and build lifelong connections while enjoying meals of their choice. The Outreach Team engaged with community members to showcase TVO’s educational resources.

Spring 2025

Feed Ontario Conference

Feed Ontario represents a network of more than 1,200 food banks and hunger-relief organizations across Ontario. Through their network, they deliver food across Ontario, serving more than 1 million people each year. The Outreach Team interacted with over 60 food bank leaders showcasing TVO’s digital learning resources and the effectiveness of these resources for children’s programming.

CTS’ Juneteenth Freedom Fest

Central Technical School (CTS) is a secondary school part of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) with a school population of over 1,600 students. They hosted a freedom fest to celebrate Juneteenth, a day to commemorate the end of slavery. The Outreach Team engaged with over 35 students and teachers, showcasing TVO’s resources focused on Black empowerment, including TVO Mathify, TVO Learn, and TVO Today.

TVO Today Live

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Thomas L. Friedman joined Steve Paikin on stage for a wide-ranging conversation about the fate of U.S.-led globalization, America’s reversal on trade, and more. This event also featured a live recording of the TVO #Onpoli podcast, highlighting TVO Today programming to a live audience. The Outreach Team showcased TVO Today and other TVO.me resources to 40 attendees, many of whom discovered new offerings.

Toronto Newcomer Day

Toronto Newcomers Day 2025 is the 11th annual Newcomer Day sponsored by the City of Toronto and the Government of Canada, aimed at assisting newcomers to Toronto in understanding and accessing a range of settlement services and integrating into the city. The Outreach Team interacted with approximately 350 attendees, effectively showcasing TVO’s resources and services, including TVO Today as a resource for Ontario-centric information and journalism. 

OMSSA Exchange Conference

The OMSSA Exchange Conference is designed for Ontario Municipal Social Services Association (OMSSA) members and partners to exchange ideas and to share resources that can benefit childcare, children’s and early year services, employment services and more. The Outreach Team connected with over 60 social service workers and established new connections across various municipalities. This engagement significantly enhanced TVO's brand awareness among social services, positioning TVO as a vital educational resource and partner for municipalities across Ontario. 

University of Guelph-Humber Science Rendezvous

Each year, the University of Guelph-Humber invites families from the community to join for an inspiring day filled with creative science-based activities and enriching learning experiences. There are engaging activities to ignite curiosity and passion in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math). The Outreach Team showcased TVO’s digital learning resources to over 100 families and community stakeholders, showcasing TVO’s digital learning resources.

ASET Conference

Every spring ASET (Association for Special Education Technology) hosts a conference that is specifically targeted towards Assistive Technology, Universal Design for Learning and 21st century instructional technologies to support diverse learners.   ASET is a growing network of Adaptive and Assistive Technology consultants, teachers, technicians and support staff from educational institutions across Ontario, who are dedicated to the support of students with special needs using technology. The Outreach Team interacted with over 100 teachers, Adaptive and Assistive Technology consultants, and special education professionals from schools and organizations across Ontario, showcasing TVO’s digital learning resources and the effectiveness of these resources to support learners with visible and invisible disabilities
